Dear Mr Gaiman,

I am the Teen Librarian at the Newark Library in Newark California and I have a great group of 5th-7th graders in my Tween book club. We recently read The Graveyard Book for our monthly selection and as a group the kids had so much to say about your book, but also so many questions and curiosities that had no answer. I asked them if they wanted to write you a letter to share their thoughts, questions and a request; they were extremely excited about writing to you so I hope this letter finds you!

Best,

Dear Mr.Neil Gaiman,

We would like to request that you write a sequel or prequel for the Newbery Award winning book, The Graveyard Book. We thoroughly enjoyed the book, your writing style and how the book was a bit old fashion, but would enjoy it more if there was a second book to answer our questions.

After reading, we wanted to find more about

  • The Macabray
    • We really enjoyed the part of the Macabray, but we wanted to learn more about the dance, white flowers, and the Grey lady.
  • The Jack’s story
    • It is cool and interesting about the Jack, and how he is trying to capture Bod, but we didn’t really know much about him and his backstory.

We were also wondering about:

  • What happened to the Jack’s company, and what happens to Bod after he left the graveyard?
  • What happened to Scarlett?
  • Why didn’t the Owens take care of Bod?

We believe a lot of these questions and curiosities can be answered with a new book, either a sequel or prequel and we hope that you will write one!

Thank you for your time, and for writing such a great book in The Graveyard Book.

Sincerely,

Sriram Murali, 7th grade

Kyle Galinis, 6th grade

Aanchel Patel, 6th grade

Katia Rodriguez, 6th grade

Ashley Haba, 7th grade

Itzel Camarillo, 6th grade
