Did you know that the Newark Library is hosting a poster contest in honor of Children’s Book Week? If you are twelve or younger and have a favorite children’s book, we’d love to see what kind of a poster you can create! The poster must show something about your favorite book and must be flat. It can be any size. Please turn in your poster between April 26th and May 13th in order to have it counted for the contest. We will display the posters in the Children’s Area of the Library during Children’s Book Week, May 13th – May 18th. Please add a note to the back of the poster with your name, age and a phone number/e-mail address, along with a note: Attn: Mary Ayers, Children’s Book Week Poster.

Do you love building with Legos? We are hosting our first ever Lego Club meeting this Thursday night (tomorrow) April 24th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Anyone is welcome to join us – all you have to do is bring some Legos along with you! Unfortunately we cannot provide Legos for everyone so we are asking that you bring your own along to the meetings. We will have a theme for the night each month. We will try to post the theme in advance for future meetings. We will also have light refreshments at the meeting. This is the place for everyone to get together, share ideas and tips on building and just have a great time! Lego Club will meet on the fourth Thursday of the month, every month. Registration is not required. Each person will receive a membership card at their first meeting.

Monarch Butterflies: Flying Jewels by MaryA

Come and explore the amazing world of the Monarch butterflies with Naturalist Dino Labiste from Coyote Hills Regional Park. We’ll look at the life cycle of these flying jewels as they transform from an egg, to a caterpillar, to a chrysalis and finally emerge as an adult butterfly. What drives the western Monarchs to make the incredible migration as they journey from the northwest of the United States to overwinter in roosting sites along the Pacific coast of California?
If you are interested in learning about these fascinating insects, please join us this Saturday, April 26th from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room. This is a free program and no registration is required.
