The weather is getting chillier, and that means it’s time for some special sweet treats – including hot cocoa!

Here are a few recipes:

To make homemade ‘instant’ cocoa:

  • 3 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 1/4 cups cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon table salt

Combine these three ingredients and store them in an airtight container.  Add 2 tbs. of this cocoa powder to 1 cup of hot milk.  Stir and enjoy!

To make rich, decadent hot cocoa, try Polar Express Hot Chocolate (from the blog Honey & Fitz):

  • 1.5 cups of heavy cream
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
  • 2 cups of bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 6 cups of milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Mix all ingredients together (stirring regularly) for 30-40 minutes.  This is also slow-cooker friendly – add all ingredients and cook on low for a few hours.Come in a check out our recipe books for more delicious ideas to spice up your holidays.

November kicked off the library’s first-ever sewing workshops. At Sewing 101 on  November 8 (to be repeated on January 10) sewing expert Jennifer Serr taught students sewing basics and how to use a paper pattern before they sewed a drawstring bag. Students will create a zippered pouch on December 6, from 1 – 3 p.m. (Class is full but will be repeated February 7.) Christmas stockings will be the project on December 13 at 10 a.m. All materials and equipment will be supplied. Registration is required so email btelford-ishida@aclibrary.org if you are interested. We also need volunteers to help with classes.
